Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualifications

Candidates applying for the post of Residential School Teacher must fulfill the following mandatory criteria:
  • Academic & Professional Qualification:

     

    • PUC / Higher Secondary with at least 50% marks (minimum 45% marks for SC, ST, Category-1, and PwD candidates) and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed); OR
    • PUC with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) and a 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed); OR
    • PUC with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) and a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
  • Teacher Eligibility Test (TET):

     

    • Must have cleared the Teacher Eligibility Test (K-TET or CTET) conducted by the Government of Karnataka or Government of India.
  • Candidates awaiting final examination results as on the closing date are not eligible to apply.

Age Limit (as on 18th September 2026)

The minimum age is 18 years. Incorporating the one-time 5-year upper age relaxation granted by the Government of Karnataka (Order No. DPAR 262 SRR 2025 dated 29.01.2026), the maximum age limits are:
  • General Merit (GM): 40 Years
  • Category 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B: 43 Years
  • SC / ST / Category-1: 45 Years
  • Persons with Disabilities (PwD) / Widows: Relaxed by 10 Years
  • Ex-Servicemen: Service period + 3 additional years

Salary, Probation & Pension

  • Pay Scale: Rs. 41,300 – Rs. 81,800 (State Revised Pay Scale 2024).
  • Probationary Period: Selected candidates will be placed on probation for a period of 2 years.
  • Pension Scheme: Governed under the National Pension System (NPS).

Selection Process and Examination Pattern

The selection will be finalized based on performance in a competitive written examination (CBT or Offline OMR mode).

1. Compulsory Kannada Language Exam (Qualifying)

  • Total Marks: 150 Marks (Multiple Choice Questions).
  • Qualifying Score: Minimum 50 marks.
  • Exemption: Candidates who studied Kannada as a first/second language in SSLC or higher levels, or completed schooling in Kannada medium, or cleared prior official Kannada language tests are exempted.

  • Qualifying Cutoff: A candidate must secure a minimum of 35% marks in the competitive exam to be considered for selection.
  • Negative Marking: Each wrong answer carries a deduction of 0.25 marks (1/4th mark). OMR answer sheets also include a 5th option circle for unattempted questions; leaving all options unshaded results in a deduction of 0.25 marks.
