Union Cabinet approved Rs 1.3 trillion ‘Bharatnet’ package
The Union Cabinet on Friday approved Rs. 1.3 trillion ($17 billion) worth of investments to drive the next stage of the government’s ambitious Bharatnet project which aims to provide every Indian village with fixed-line broadband connectivity a top official from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said on Saturday.
The Cabinet meeting also saw the adoption of a new operational model to drive the next stage of the project, which aims to cover 674,000 villages under 250,000-gram panchayats nationwide within the next two months, he said.

The govt. envisions this site as a stop for pilgrims traveling to Tiruchendur, contributing to the cultural heritage and tourism of the region – Nirmala Sitaraman.
The government is working tirelessly to repatriate artifacts belonging to Adichallanur from abroad, with a focus on items currently held in Berlin. Thus far, the government’s efforts have resulted in the return of over 350 ancient artifacts and items of historical importance to India – Nirmala Sitaraman.
2nd Inter-Ministry Bar & Bench Badminton Championship at Delhi
Fit India Mission in association with the Ministry of Law and Justice organised the second edition of the Inter-Ministry Bar & Bench Badminton Championship at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex in Delhi on Saturday. The event was inaugurated by Union Minister of Law and Justice Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal.
This is the second time when the inter ministry tournament has been organized with the support of Supreme Court Bar Members including Supreme Court Advocates On Record Association. It has the participation of judges, several senior advocates, luminaires, young lawyers and officials of the ministry including CBDT from all age groups.
Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurates 132nd Durand Cup in Assam
The opening ceremony was witnessed by nearly 12,000 football fans from across the state and the region. Main attractions of the ceremony included a flypast by Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft and Mi-17 helicopter, martial displays, Gatka and Bhangra along with the display of Bodo cultural dance by the local troupe.
The inaugural ceremony was followed by the opening match of the tournament between Bodoland FC and Rajasthan United FC. Kokrajhar will witness eight group matches and one quarter-final to be played on August 24, 2023. A total of 24 teams, including two foreign teams from Nepal and Bangladesh, all three teams of Indian Armed Forces and the local team of Bodoland FC will clash at three venues in Kolkata, Guwahati and Kokrajhar during the tournament.
