The General Education Department, Government of Kerala, has officially released the time table for the First Term (Onam) Evaluation 2026–27 for the Lower Primary (LP), Upper Primary (UP), and High School (HS) sections. The examinations are scheduled to be conducted across the state from August 13, 2026, to August 21, 2026. The tests will take place in two sessions: Forenoon (FN) and Afternoon (AN). In the new academic year, vowels അം (am), and അഃ (aa) will also be included along with the Malayalam alphabet in class one and two textbooks. Both of these letters were excluded from the alphabet in 2012. As the first edition of the textbooks has been printed, the alphabet will be published in the third edition of the class one textbooks and in the second edition of the class two textbooks. As a result, now the Malayalam alphabet has 51 letters, including 15 vowels and the remaining consonants. The current practice for class one students is to learn the alphabet after understanding the concept and then recognizing the sentence.

Important Guidelines & Instructions

• Cool-off Time: A 15-minute cool-off time is included in the allotted exam duration for students to read and understand the question paper. For LP/UP sections, the cool-off time is from 10:00 AM to 10:15 AM for FN sessions, and 1:30 PM to 1:45 PM for AN sessions.

• Friday Afternoon Session: Friday afternoon exams for the LP/UP sections will run from 2:00 PM to 4:15 PM (with the cool-off time observed from 2:00 PM to 2:15 PM). For High School, it will be from 2:00 PM to 3:45 PM.

• Unscheduled Holidays: In case an unexpected holiday falls on any scheduled exam day, the examination for that day will be conducted later at the school level using question papers prepared locally.

• Duration: Most LP and UP examinations have a duration of 2 hours. High school exam durations vary between 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the subject.
