Education & Eligibility Details
Employee Status: This is a Limited Departmental Competitive Examination; hence, candidates must be permanent or regularly appointed temporary employees (such as Junior Secretariat Assistants, Lower Division Clerks, or Hindi Typists) in the participating cadres.
Length of Service: Candidates must have rendered a specific number of years of continuous regular service in their grade on the crucial date, ranging from 3 to 6 years depending on the specific department.
Educational Qualifications: Some cadres may require a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university (e.g., Central Passport Organisation).
Skill Test: Certain cadres require passing a typewriting test held by the relevant authority on or before the notification date, unless exempted.
Salary
Candidates selected for the Senior Secretariat Assistant / Upper Division Clerk Grade will be placed in Pay Level-4 for Group ‘C’ Non-Gazetted posts, with a pay scale ranging from Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100.
Age Limit
- The upper age limit varies by department and is determined as of the crucial date specified for each cadre.
- For the Railway Board Secretariat Clerical Service, the maximum age limit is 50 years on the crucial date.
- For the Directorate General, Defence Estates, the candidate should not be more than 45 years of age on the crucial date.

Selection Process
The selection involves a multi-stage evaluation process:
Part-I (Computer Based & Written Examination): * Paper-I is an Objective Type Computer Based Examination consisting of General Awareness (100 marks) and English Language and Comprehension (100 marks).
Paper-II is a conventional descriptive written examination covering Noting, Drafting, and Office Procedure (100 marks).
Part-II (Evaluation of Record of Service): Evaluation of the candidate’s Annual Performance Assessment Reports (APARs) carrying 100 marks.
Final Selection: The final merit list is prepared based on the aggregate performance in Paper-I, Paper-II, and the APAR Evaluation.
Application Fee
The official notification does not stipulate an application fee for this departmental examination. However, candidates wishing to submit representations against the tentative Answer Keys post-examination must pay a non-refundable fee of Rs. 50/- per question.
How to Apply
- Visit the new official website of the Staff Selection Commission at https://ssc.gov.in.
- Complete the One Time Registration (OTR) process if not already registered on the new portal.
- Log in using your Registration Number and Password.
- Locate the “Apply” link in the SSA/ UDC Grade Limited Departmental Competitive Examination, 2025 section under the “Live Exam” tab.
- Fill in all the required departmental and personal details.
- Upload a recently captured live photograph and a scanned signature meeting the prescribed dimensions.
- Submit the online application form by 26.06.2026 (2300 hours) and take a printed copy.
- Forward the printed application along with certified true copies of your Service Book and other required documents through your Head of Department/Office to the Regional Director, SSC (Northern Region), New Delhi by 03.07.2026.
