UPESSC Principal Recruitment 2026: The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj has released the official recruitment notification (Advt. No. 02/2026) for the post of Principal. This recruitment drive aims to fill a total of 111 vacancies in government-aided co-education and women’s degree colleges across Uttar Pradesh. Vacancy Details

A total of 111 vacancies for the post of Principal have been announced by the commission as per the requisition received from the Directorate of Higher Education, Prayagraj. Out of the total posts, 89 positions are allocated for Co-Education Degree Colleges, while 22 posts are designated for Women’s Degree Colleges.

Educational Details

To be eligible for the UPESSC Principal post, candidates must fulfill the following mandatory qualifications:

• Ph.D. Degree: Must hold a Ph.D. degree in a relevant discipline.
• Designation & Experience: Must be a Professor / Associate Professor with at least 15 years of teaching, research, or administrative experience in universities, colleges, or higher education institutions.
• Research Publications: Minimum of 10 research publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals.
• API Score: Must have earned a minimum API (Academic Performance Indicator) Research Score of 110 as per Table-2 guidelines.

(Note: For Law and B.Ed colleges, Bar Council of India (BCI) and NCTE norms will be applicable respectively).

Salary

Selected candidates for the post of Principal will receive a pay scale under Academic Pay Level-14, ranging from ₹1,44,200 to ₹2,18,200. Additional allowances will be granted as per Uttar Pradesh state government rules.

Age Limit

• Maximum Age Limit: 62 years (as on 01 July 2026). Candidates born before 01 July 1964 or exceeding 62 years of age as on the cutoff date are not eligible.

Selection Process

The candidate selection will be finalized based on a multi-stage evaluation:

1. Written Examination: A 360-mark objective type test comprising 120 questions (40 GK + 80 Administrative Aptitude).
2. API Research Score Verification: Candidates must qualify the minimum threshold of 110 research points.
3. Interview: Personal interview carrying 40 marks.
4. Document Verification & College Allocation: Verification of original documents and final placement based on merit and college preference.
