Education Details

  • Basic Academic Qualification: Candidates must have passed the Madhyamik Examination from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) or possess an equivalent qualification from a recognized board.

  • Computer & Typing Proficiency: Candidates must possess elementary knowledge in computer operation, along with typing speed capabilities of 20 words per minute in English or 10 words per minute in Bengali on a computer. Candidates must exercise their typing language choice at the time of application.

  • Language Requirement: Candidates must have the ability to read, write, and speak in Bengali (this requirement is not compulsory for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali).

Salary

Appointed candidates will be placed under Pay Level 6 of the WBS (ROPA) Rules, 2019, with a basic pay scale of Rs. 22,700/- to Rs. 58,500/- per month. In addition to the basic pay, employees are entitled to Dearness Allowance (D.A.), Medical Allowance (M.A.), and House Rent Allowance (H.R.A.) as admissible under Government of West Bengal rules.

Age Limit

  • Age Criteria: Not below 18 years and not more than 45 years as on 01.01.2024 (candidates must have been born not earlier than January 2, 1979, and not later than January 1, 2006).

  • Relaxation in Upper Age Limit:

    • SC & ST Candidates of West Bengal: 5 years

    • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Candidates of West Bengal: 3 years

    • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): Relaxable up to 45 years

    • Ex-Servicemen: Deduct continuous military service (minimum 6 months) from actual age; resultant age must not exceed the prescribed limit by more than 3 years.

    • Note: SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates belonging to other states are treated as General category candidates without age or fee concessions.

Selection Process

The Clerkship Examination is conducted in successive tiers:

  1. Part-I Examination (Objective Type): Preliminary test consisting of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) covering General Studies, English, and Arithmetic. There is a negative marking of 0.25 mark deducted for each wrong answer.

  2. Part-II Examination (Conventional Written Type): Descriptive written paper for candidates who qualify in Part-I. Disclosing identity on answer sheets attracts a 10% penalty deduction from marks.

  3. Computer Operation & Typing Test: Shortlisted candidates from Part-I and Part-II will be tested on computer operation and basic typing speed (20 wpm in English or 10 wpm in Bengali).

  4. Final Merit List: Prepared using combined aggregate marks of Part-I and Part-II, subject to qualifying the typing and computer tests.

  • General / OBC Candidates: Rs. 110/- plus applicable online processing charges.

  • SC / ST Candidates of West Bengal: Exempted from paying fee.

  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD $\ge$ 40%): Exempted from paying fee.

  • SC/ST/OBC Candidates of Other States: Rs. 110/- (no fee concession applies).

  • Payment Mode: Fee must be paid strictly through online mode using Net Banking, Debit Card, or Credit Card.
