As per the provisions of the Right to Free and Compulsory Education of Children Act, 2009, the “Teacher Eligibility Test” is now compulsory for all primary teachers (e.g., classes 1 to 8).
This will apply to all teachers in all schools providing primary education (e.g., 1st to 8th) (including all management, all media, all examinations, subsidized /unaided/permanent non-aided, etc.).

Exam Pattern and Timetable

The MAHATET examination is divided into two papers based on the educational level the candidate wishes to teach.

  • Paper-I: Mandatory for candidates intending to teach Primary Classes (Standard 1st to 5th).

  • Paper-II: Mandatory for candidates intending to teach Upper Primary Classes (Standard 6th to 8th).

Both papers will be conducted on the same day in two different shifts:

Who Should Apply?

Clearing the MAHATET is a compulsory prerequisite for securing the position of Shikshan Sevak or a regular Teacher. Eligibility Details

Candidates receiving a minimum of 60% marks in this examination (55% of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Vimukta Jatis / Nomadic Tribes, Special Backward Classes, Other Backward Classes, and Disabled candidates) have been recognized.
(i) Passing Higher Secondary (or equivalent) examination with a minimum 50% marks in a recognized board and a two-year Diploma in Primary Education in a recognized institution (D.T.E.D.) (given the name as such) Or
(ii) Passing the Higher Secondary (or equivalent) examination with a minimum of 45% marks in the recognized board as per National Council for Teacher Education (Regulations, 2002) and passing the two-year Diploma in Primary Education in the recognized institution. (If any given name).

  • Minimum Age- 18 Yrs
  • Maximum Age- 37 Yrs
