BARC OCES/DGFS 2026 Eligibility Details

To apply for the BARC recruitment, candidates must meet specific academic and age criteria:

  • Educational Qualification:

    • Engineering: B.E. / B.Tech / B.Sc (Engineering) / 5-year Integrated M.Tech with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in any of the eligible 8 disciplines (Mechanical, Chemical, Metallurgy, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Instrumentation, or Civil).

    • Science: M.Sc / Integrated M.Sc in Physics, Chemistry, Biosciences, Geology, or Geophysics with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.

  • Age Limit (as of August 1, 2026):

    • General Category: 26 years.

    • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 29 years.

    • SC/ST: 31 years.

  • Nationality: Applicant must be a citizen of India.

BARC OCES/DGFS 2026 Exam Details & Pattern

The selection is a two-step process: screening followed by a personal interview.

1. Screening Modes

Candidates can choose one or both of the following:

  • Online Screening Test: A computer-based test conducted across India in March 2026.

  • GATE Score: Screening based on a valid GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 score in the relevant subject.

2. Selection Interview

Shortlisted candidates will undergo a rigorous technical interview. Final selection is based solely on performance in the interview, subject to medical fitness.

Exam Pattern (Online Test)

The online test is designed to assess technical proficiency in the candidate’s core discipline:

  • Total Questions: 100

  • Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

  • Total Duration: 120 minutes (2 hours)

  • Marking Scheme: +3 for every correct answer; -1 for every incorrect answer.

Participating Training Schools

Selected OCES candidates will be trained at one of the following locations depending on their discipline:

  • BARC, Mumbai: For Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, and Biosciences.

  • AMD, Hyderabad: For Geology and Geophysics.

For the DGFS scheme, candidates pursue M.Tech at premier institutes such as IIT Bombay (IITB) or IIT Madras (IITM) while receiving a stipend from DAE.

Application Fee

  • General and OBC (Male): ₹500.

  • Exempted Categories: Women, SC/ST, Transgender, PwD, and Dependents of Defense Personnel Killed in Action.
