The HPSC HCS Preliminary examination is the critical first screening stage in the recruitment process for administrative roles such as Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), and Excise & Taxation Officer (ETO). The exam will be held in multiple designated centers across Haryana in a single day (Sunday).
The exam will take place in two distinct shifts:
Morning Shift (Paper I): 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Afternoon Shift (Paper II): 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Candidates are strongly advised to reach their respective examination venues well before the reporting time to allow for smooth frisking and biometric verification procedures.
HPSC HCS Exam Pattern
The HPSC HCS Prelims exam consists of two objective-type multiple-choice papers. Both papers are conducted in an offline pen-and-paper mode.
| Paper | Subject | Total Marks | Duration | Negative Marking |
| Paper I | General Studies | 100 | 2 Hours | 0.25 Marks |
| Paper II | Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) | 100 | 2 Hours | 0.25 Marks |
| Total | 200 | 4 Hours |
Crucial Note: Paper II (CSAT) is purely qualifying in nature; candidates must score a minimum of 33% to pass. The final merit list for shortlisting candidates to the Mains exam will be prepared based only on the marks scored in Paper I.
