Penalty for Wrong Answers

 There is a penalty for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests of both Preliminary and Mains exams. A wrong answer to an objective question by the candidate will lead to a penalty of one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question. For example, 0.25 marks will be deducted as a penalty for a wrong answer to a question that carries 1 mark. There will be no penalty for leaving a question blank, i.e. if the candidate marks no answer.

IBPS PO Preliminary Exam Pattern 2026

The IBPS PO exam pattern enforces strict sectional timing across both online testing phases, requiring candidates to balance high speed with pinpoint accuracy. The Preliminary exam remains a 60-minute sprint testing core numerical, logical, and verbal aptitudes. However, the revised Main examination pattern has expanded to 170 objective questions solved over 160 minutes, shifting greater point weightage toward Data Analysis & Interpretation and General/Banking Awareness, followed immediately by a 30-minute typing-based descriptive paper.

Note:

  1. There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.
  2. Marks of Quantitative Aptitude has been reduced to 30 from 35 previously and marks for Reasoning section has been increased by 5, from 35 to 40. However, the number of questions remain the same.

IBPS PO Mains Exam Pattern 2026

When comparing it to the IBPS PO Prelims Exam, the main examination will be different. IBPS introduces a descriptive paper for the IBPS Mains Examinations, similar to the SBI PO Exam, to assess their writing skills. The Time duration also changed. Candidates will be given an essay and a letter to write, which will constitute 25 marks and must be completed within a 30-minute time frame. No separate paper will be conducted for Computer Applications. The reasoning is paired with the Computer Aptitude section, and this entire section will contain 45 questions, totaling 60 marks.
