IIT JAM 2026: The Joint Admission Test for Master’s (JAM) 2026 is a prestigious entrance exam conducted by IIT Bombay. It serves as the gateway to various postgraduate programs such as M.Sc., M.Sc.-Ph.D. dual degree, and Integrated Ph.D. courses in top institutes across India. The exam, scheduled for February 15, 2026, provides students with opportunities to pursue higher studies in the fields of Science, Technology, and Engineering.

IIT JAM 2026 Notification

JAM 2026 is a computer-based test (CBT) organised by IIT Bombay, will be held on 15𝑡ℎ February, 2026 in two sessions. JAM 2026 scores will be used for admission in IITs and other prestigious institutes for the academic year 2026-27. JAM Scores are used for admission to various postgraduate programs such as (i) M.Sc., (ii) M.Sc. (Tech.), (iii) M.S. (Research), (iv) M.Sc. – M.Tech. Dual Degree, (v) Joint M.Sc. – Ph.D., (vi) M.Sc. – Ph.D. Dual Degree, and (vii) Integrated Ph.D. in multiple disciplines by premier institutes across the country.

IIT JAM 2026 Exam Details

The Joint Admission Test for Master’s (JAM) 2026, organised by IIT Bombay, will comprise (i) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), (ii) Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) and (iii) Numer- ical Answer Type (NAT) Questions. Candidates may appear in ONE or TWO Test Paper(s). JAM 2026 Examination will be conducted in around 116 Cities across India. Here are the key highlights:

Academic Programs Offered through IIT JAM 2026

The Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2026, conducted by IIT Bombay, provides admission to a diverse array of postgraduate science programs across 22 participating institutes, including 21 IITs and IISc Bangalore. A total of 89 programs are offered for the academic year 2026–27, encompassing various disciplines and degree structures.

Newly Introduced Programs in JAM 2026

IIT Bombay has introduced three new academic programs for the 2026 admission cycle:

  1. M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Operations Research: A collaborative program combining M.Sc. and Ph.D. studies in Operations Research.

  2. M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Environmental Science and Engineering: A program focusing on interdisciplinary studies in environmental science and engineering.

  3. M.Sc.-M.Tech. Dual Degree in Data and Computational Sciences: A program integrating M.Sc. and M.Tech. degrees in Data and Computational Sciences.

IIT JAM 2026 Participating Institutes

There are around 3000 seats in postgraduate programs at 22 IITs for the academic year 2026-27. JAM score will be used for admission to over 2000 seats for postgraduate programs at IISc, CFTIs, NITs, DIAT, IIEST Shibpur, IISER Pune, IISER Bhopal, IIPE, JNCASR, SLIET etc.   

The following IITs and institutions accept IIT JAM 2026 scores for admission to their postgraduate programs:

  • IITs: IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, IIT Guwahati, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Goa, IIT Jammu, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Dharwad, IIT Indore, IIT Mandi, IIT Palakkad, IIT Patna, IIT Tirupati, IIT Ropar, IIT Varanasi, IIT Dhanbad.

  • Other Institutes: Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) Shibpur, National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs).

IIT JAM 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have either completed their undergraduate degree or will be appearing in the final examination of their qualifying degree in 2026 are eligible to appear in JAM 2026. By qualifying in JAM 2026, candidates can apply for admission subject to the following conditions

  1. Nationality:

    • The exam is open to all nationals, including Indian citizens, Foreign nationals, Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO).

  2. Educational Qualifications:

    • Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from a recognized university or institution.

    • A minimum of 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) is required in the qualifying degree.

    • Students in their final year of the qualifying degree program are also eligible to apply.

  3. Age Limit:

    • There is no upper age limit to appear for IIT JAM 2026.

  4. Subject-Specific Requirements:

    • Each test paper has its own subject-specific requirements. Candidates must ensure they meet the prerequisites for the chosen subject(s).

The application fee for IIT JAM 2026 varies based on the candidate’s category and the number of test papers they opt for:

How to Apply for IIT JAM 2026

Candidates can apply for JAM 2026 through https://jam2026.iitb.ac.in from September 5, 2025 to October 12, 2025. 

  1. Register Online: Candidates have to first register on JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS), by providing their name, a valid e-mail address, an active mobile number, and setting a password. Af- ter successful registration, the candidate’s Enrollment ID and OTP will be sent to the e-mail address and mobile number provided by the candidate. The candidate needs to use this Enrollment ID along with the password for submitting the application.

  2. Fill the Application Form: Apply for the examination online, upload a photograph, a signature, 10𝑡ℎ marksheet with DoB, and other documents like certificates (for OBC- NCL/EWS/SC/ST/PwD) if applicable.

  3. Pay the Application Fee: Complete the fee payment using available online payment methods.
  4. Submit the Application: After reviewing all details, submit your application.

IIT JAM 2026 Exam Pattern

The IIT JAM 2026 exam is designed to assess the knowledge and analytical skills of candidates in their chosen subject. JAM 2026 Examination will be conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT) in seven Test Papers namely, Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Economics (EN), Ge- ology(GG), Mathematics (MA), Mathematical Statistics (MS), and Physics (PH).  The exam duration is 3 hours, and candidates will be tested with 60 questions, covering multiple-choice questions (MCQs), multiple-select questions (MSQs), and numerical answer type (NAT) questions.

The IIT JAM 2026 exam will consist of seven papers, each divided into three sections:

  • Section A: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) – 1 mark each

  • Section B: Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) – 2 marks each

  • Section C: Numerical Answer Type (NAT) – 2 marks each

Each section is timed separately, and the questions aim to test the candidate’s understanding, application, and analytical abilities in their chosen field.
