The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), Vijayawada has officially released Brief Notification No. 26/2026 for the direct recruitment of Assistant Social Welfare Officer (ASWO) in the A.P. Social Welfare Service and Assistant Tribal Welfare Officer (ATWO / TSWO) in the A.P. Tribal Welfare Service. A total of 17 vacancies have been notified under this general recruitment drive.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational Qualification (As on the date of Detailed Notification)

  • Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University in India established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, State Act, Provincial Act, or an institution recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), or an equivalent qualification recognized by the State Government.

2. Age Limit & Crucial Date

  • The crucial date for reckoning age and other qualifications will be the date of publication of the detailed notification. Standard age relaxations for SC, ST, BC, EWS, and other reserved categories will apply as per Andhra Pradesh State and Subordinate Service Rules.

Selection Process & Examination Pattern

The selection process for both ASWO and ATWO positions features a single-level examination only. No preliminary screening test will be conducted, irrespective of the volume of applications received.

  • Negative Marking: Each incorrect response incurs a penalty of $1/3\text{rd}$ of the marks assigned to that question.

  • Normalization: If the exam is administered across multiple sessions, normalization of marks will be applied in accordance with the Commission’s standard procedure.

2. Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)

Candidates must qualify in the practical Computer Proficiency Test (Office Automation with usage of Computers and Associated Software):

  • Duration: 60 Minutes

  • Total Marks: 100 Marks

  • Minimum Qualifying Marks:

    • Open Competition (OC): 40 Marks

    • Backward Classes (BC): 35 Marks

    • SC / ST Candidates: 30 Marks

  • Paper-I (General Studies & Mental Ability): Current events of national, international, and AP importance; General Science and IT developments; History and Geography of India with AP focus; Indian Polity and Governance; Indian Economy and Planning; Disaster Management; Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation.

  • Paper-II (Social & Cultural History of AP & Welfare Programmes): Early history from Satavahanas to Eastern Chalukyas; Medieval dynasties (11th–16th Century); Freedom struggle, 1857 Revolt impact, and Nationalist movement in AP; Andhra Movement, 1953 Andhra State formation, and Gentlemen’s Agreement up to 2014; Welfare and economic priorities of the AP Government for SC/ST welfare.

  • Paper-III (Indian Constitution & Weaker Section Safeguards): Nature and salient features of the Constitution; Union and State executive, legislature, and judiciary; Centre-State administrative and legislative relations; Constitutional amendments and local self-government (73rd & 74th Amendments); Constitutional provisions, statutory commissions (SC, ST, BC, Women, Minorities, Human Rights), and the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act.
