NIMCET 2020 Application (Started) Syllabus, Dates, Eligibility, Exam Pattern

NIMCET 2020: NIMCET (NIT MCA Common Entrance Test) is being Conducted by National Institute of Technology (NIT) to provided admission in various MCA programmes is offered by 11 participating NITs (Warangal/ Tiruchirapalli/ Surathkal/ Raipur/ Kurukshetra/ Jamshedpur/ Durgapur/ Calicut/ Bhopal/ Allahabad/ Agartala). NIMCET 2020 is going to be Conducted in the month of May 2020.

Date and Time of Entrance Test May 24, 2020 (Sunday), 10.00 AM to 12.00 Noon (IST)
Admission to the M.C.A. programme of the ten NITs is done through a common entrance test NIMCET. Candidates must apply for NIMCET-2020 through ‘Online’ only and they must follow the instructions strictly as given in the NIMCET-2020 website Applications not complying with the instructions will be summarily rejected.

About NIMCET-2020

National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are Institutes of National Importance and are Centrally Funded Technical Institutes. The NIT MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET), is a National Level Test conducted by NITs for admission to their Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme. The admission to the MCA programme to the ten NITs at Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Calicut, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, Raipur, Surathkal, Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), and Warangal for the year 2020-21 is based on the Rank obtained in NIMCET-2020 only. The Curriculum and Syllabi of Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme offered by NITs are designed considering the needs of different Information Technology firms in India and abroad. MCA graduates have high potential for jobs in the IT Sector.

NIMCET 2020: Eligibility Criteria

Indian Nationals securing at least 60% marks in aggregate or 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scales (55% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a 10-point scale in case of SC/ ST) in

  1. B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Hons) / BCA / BIT / B.Voc. (Computer Science/ Computer Applica-  tions) of minimum three years full-time from a recognized University with Mathematics/ Statistics as one of the subjects


2.B.E./ B.Tech. from a recognized University

are eligible to appear for NIMCET-2020. Conversion of scored marks from CGPA to percentage and vice-versa is not permitted.

(CGPA other than 10-point scale will be converted to 10-point scale based on Unitary method)

Candidates who are appearing for the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply for NIMCET-2020 and such candidates shall have to furnish the proof (in the form of a certificate issued by the Head of institution where the candidate has been studying / has studied) of candidature for appearing in the examinations during the academic year 2020-21. All candidates shall submit the proof of fulfilling the eligibility criteria of NIMCET- 2020 at the time of Counseling/Admission but not later than September 15, 2020, failing which their admission is liable to be cancelled by the respective NITs.

Note: Students who have completed/completing B.Sc./ B.Sc. (Hons)/BCA/ BIT of 3 years from Open Universities are also eligible to apply provided the programme is approved by UGC / AICTE and Distance Education Council (DEC) of Govt. of India.

Admission through NIMCET-2020:

The candidates who appeared and obtained marks in NIMCET-2020 will be allotted ranks by adopting the criteria stated in section 13 of this brochure (see section 13 for details). The candidates who obtained rank in NIMCET- 2020 only shall be eligible for admission into MCA programme in the participating institutes. Important features regarding the eligibility criteria, online application for NIMCET-2020, syllabus for the test, test centers, criteria to award a rank, rank card, admission procedure, list of participating institutes with total number of seats, seat distribution, contact addresses, admission schedule are given in this brochure. NIMCET 2020: Application FEE

The non-refundable Application Processing Fee for NIMCET-2020 test and counselling for admission to the MCA programme is Rs. 2,500/- for OPEN/OPEN-EWS/OBC category and Rs. 1,250/- for SC/ST/PwD category candidates. Candidates have to deposit an appropriate amount relevant to their category.

Candidates are required to deposit the processing fee online through NIMCET- 2020 website only.

How to Apply for NIMCET 2020

Candidates have to register on NIMCET-2020 website by creating the login, password as instructed therein and then fill all the details as per the Online Form. Application system is made user-friendly as much as possible and enough help/ instructions/ guidelines have been provided in appropriate places in addition to the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) link provided on the top of the application page. Further, a link is also provided on the top of the webpage to “Contact us” for any assistance/ guidance.

The last date for submitting online application is March 31, 2020. The application filling process will not be available after 5.00 PM (IST) on March 31, 2020. No requests in this regard shall be entertained thereafter.

Candidates have to pay the non-refundable Application Processing Fee (Rs. 2,500/- for OPEN/OPEN-EWS/OBC Category and Rs. 1,250/-for SC/ST/PwD Category) through the provisions made in the NIMCET-2020 website only before the final submission of the online application form.

All the relevant documents (duly self attested and then scanned) should be uploaded along with the online application form.

After duly filling up the application form and uploading of the necessary documents, the candidate should click “Preview the Application”, following which a preview of the entire application will be generated for viewing. The candidate is advised to carefully review this form and use “Revise the Application” button to go back to the application form, if required. Click on “SUBMIT” button only after assuring himself/herself that every entry is in order. Please note that no further review/ modification of the application will be possible after the final submission.

NIMCET 2020 – Exam Pattern

NIMCET is an Offline OMR Based Exam to be Conducted in English. Duration of the Exam is 120 Minutes with 120 MCQs. Each Question Scores 4 Marks. There is a Negative Marking of 1 Mark.

NIMCET-2020 test will be conducted with only one question paper containing 120 multiple choice questions covering the following subjects. Multiple Choice Questions will be written in English Language only and will not be translated into any other language.

  • Mathematics : 50 Questions
  • Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning : 40 questions
  • Computer Awareness : 10 questions
  • General English : 20 questions

Award of Marks

  1. Each correctly answered question will carry FOUR marks and each wrongly answered question will lead to NEGATIVE ONE mark.
  2. The candidates are advised not to attempt such questions if they are not sure of the correct answer. No deduction from the total score will, however, be made if a question is unanswered.
  3. More than one answer indicated against a question will be negatively marked.
  4. The candidates have to mark the responses in the OMR sheet using black or blue ink ball point pen only.

NIMCET 2020: Syllabus

MathematicsSet Theory: Concept of sets – Union, Intersection, Cardinality, Elementary counting; permutations and combinations.
Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, measures of central tendencies and dispersions.
Algebra: Fundamental operations in algebra, expansions, factorization, simultaneous linear /quadratic equations, indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, determinants and matrices.
Coordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian coordinates, distance formulae, equation of a line, and intersection of lines, pair of straight lines, equations of a circle, parabola, ellipse, and hyperbola.
Calculus: Limit of functions, continuous function, differentiation of function, tangents and normals, simple examples of maxima and minima. Integration of functions by parts, by substitution and by partial fraction, definite integrals, applications of definite integrals to areas.
Vectors: Position vector, addition and subtraction of vectors, scalar and vector products and their applications to simple geometrical problems and mechanics.
Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations properties of triangles, solution of triangles, heights and distances, general solutions of trigonometric equations.
Analytical Ability and Logical ReasoningThe questions in this section will cover logical reasoning and quantitative aptitude. With some questions on comprehension of a logical situation along with questions based on the facts given in the passage.
General English
  • Questions in this section are designed to test the candidates’ general understanding of the English language. The questions are basically on the following topics.
  • Comprehension, Vocabulary, Basic English Grammar like usage of correct forms of verbs, prepositions and articles etc. Word power, Synonyms and Antonyms also form the part of the question, Questions are also based on  Meanings of words and phrases, Technical writing etc.
Computer AwarenessComputer Basics: Organization of a Computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Structure of instructions in CPU, input/output devices, computer memory, backup devices and other hardware parts.

Data Representation: Representation of characters, integers and fractions, binary and hexadecimal representations, Binary Arithmetic: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, simple arithmetic and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point representation of numbers, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams.
