 RRB JE & DMS Recruitment 2026: Eliibility Details

To be eligible for the RRB JE Recruitment (CEN No. 04/2026), a candidate must meet specific nationality and citizenship criteria.
According to the official notification, a candidate must be either:
  • A citizen of India
  • A citizen of Nepal
  • A subject of Bhutan
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India
Important Conditions for Non-Citizens:
  • Candidates belonging to Nepal, Bhutan, or the specified migrated categories must possess a Certificate of Eligibility issued by the Government of India.
  • Candidates requiring this certificate may be admitted to the examination provisionally. However, the official Certificate of Eligibility must be submitted during the Document Verification (DV) stage. Failure to produce this document will result in the immediate rejection of their candidature.

Key Eligibility Guidelines

  • Higher Qualifications: Candidates possessing higher degrees such as B.E. / B.Tech in the specified disciplines are accepted in lieu of the three-year Diploma.
  • Cut-Off Date: Candidates must possess all prescribed qualifications on or before the closing date of application (September 13, 2026).
  • Appearing Candidates: Candidates who are awaiting the final results of their qualifying examinations are not eligible to apply.

Salary & Pay Scale

  • Pay Level: Level 6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) Pay Matrix.
  • Initial Basic Pay: ₹35,400/- per month.
  • Allowances: Additional allowances including Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA), and medical benefits are provided as per Indian Railway rules.

Age Limit (As on 01.01.2027)

  • Prescribed Age: 18 to 33 years (Candidates must be born between 02.01.1994 and 01.01.2009 for UR/EWS).
  • Upper Age Relaxations:

    • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 Years (Born not earlier than 02.01.1991).
    • SC / ST Candidates: 5 Years (Born not earlier than 02.01.1989).
    • PwBD Candidates: UR/EWS – 10 Years, OBC-NCL – 13 Years, SC/ST – 15 Years.
    • Ex-Servicemen: 3 to 8 years relaxation based on category after deducting military service.

Medical Fitness Standards

Candidates called for Document Verification (DV) must pass the requisite medical fitness test conducted by the Railway Administration to ensure they are medically fit to carry out their duties. Visual acuity is a critical parameter for railway appointments:

Important Rules on Medical Eligibility:

  • LASIK Surgery Restriction: Candidates who have undergone LASIK surgery or any other surgical procedure to correct refractory error are strictly ineligible for posts requiring the A-3 Medical Standard.
  • LASIK for B-1 Posts: Candidates with LASIK surgery may be considered for B-1 standards only if the surgery was performed at least 1 year prior, residual corneal thickness is not less than 425 microns, and there is no progressive eye disease.
  • No Alternative Appointment: Candidates failing the prescribed medical standard for their opted post(s) will not be offered any alternative appointment by Railways.
  • Medical Appeal: Candidates who fail initial medical examination may prefer a medical appeal once on payment of prescribed charges.

Selection Process

The recruitment process consists of four successive stages:
  1. 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I):

    • Screening test comprising 100 objective questions for 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible PwBD with scribe).
    • Sections: Mathematics (30 marks), General Intelligence & Reasoning (25 marks), General Awareness (15 marks), and General Science (30 marks).
  2. 2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-II):

    • Shortlisted candidates from CBT-I (15 times the vacancy) will appear for CBT-II.
    • Comprises 150 questions for 120 minutes (160 minutes with scribe).
    • Sections: General Awareness (15), Physics & Chemistry (15), Basics of Computers (10), Basics of Environment & Pollution Control (10), and Technical Abilities (100 marks).
    • Virtual calculator facility will be available on screen during CBT-II.
  3. Negative Marking: There will be 1/3rd mark negative deduction for each wrong answer in both CBT-I and CBT-II.
  4. Document Verification (DV) & Medical Examination (ME): Candidates shortlisted based on normalized 2nd Stage CBT marks will undergo Document Verification in a 1:1 ratio followed by strict railway medical standard fitness tests (A-3, B-1, B-2, or C-1 depending on post).

RRB JE Recruitment 04/2026 How to Apply

  1. Visit the official RRB application portal at rrbapply.gov.in.
  2. Click on “Create an Account” (or log in using existing RRB account credentials if already registered).
  3. Complete account authentication using digital identity verification tools or government photo identity details.
  4. Access the application form for CEN No. 04/2026 and select your chosen RRB.
  5. Fill in your educational qualifications, contact address, and order of post/zone preferences.
  6. Capture your live photograph directly via web camera/mobile camera in clear contrast against a non-white background (do not upload pre-existing photos).
  7. Upload the scanned signature (black ink on white paper, running handwriting, 30–49 KB, JPG/JPEG format) and SC/ST certificate (PDF under 400 KB, if claiming free rail pass).
  8. Pay the prescribed application fee online using Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI.
  9. Submit the completed application form on or before September 13, 2026 (23:59 hrs) and save a copy of the confirmation page.
