  1. There will be three sections.
  2. Category wise merit list will be drawn on the basis of the aggregate marks scored in the Preliminary Exam.
  3. There will be no sectional cut-off. However, there will be an overall cut-off.
  4. There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.

SBI PO Main Exam Pattern

Main Examination consists of Objective Tests for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 50 marks. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests are online. Candidates have to answer the Descriptive test by typing on the computer. Immediately after completion of the Objective Test, the Descriptive Test is administered.

Objective Test

The objective test, which lasts 3 hours, consists of 4 Sections, each worth 200 marks. The timing of each section is separate.

Descriptive Test

The Descriptive Test of 30 minutes duration with 50 marks is a Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay). The candidates are required to qualify for the descriptive test by securing passing marks, which will be decided by the bank. Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates who scored qualifying marks in the Objective Tests and are placed adequately high as per total marks in the objective test will be evaluated.

Selection criteria for Phase-III:

A category-wise merit list will be drawn based on the aggregate marks scored in Phase II (Main Exam). There will be no sectional cut-off.

Candidates for up to 3 times (approx.) of the category-wise vacancies will be shortlisted for Phase-III from the top of the category-wise merit list, subject to a candidate scoring the minimum aggregate qualifying score, as decided by the Bank.

Phase-III: Psychometric Test:

The Bank may conduct a Psychometric test for personality profiling of those candidates who will be shortlisted for Phase III. Finding of the test may be placed before the Interview panel to have a thorough perspective on the candidates

Interview Process

A candidate who clears both the Prelims & Mains Exam of SBI PO 2019 will be further called for a GD-PI session wherein they will face a panel of selectors discussing their past experience and questions related to General Knowledge and of the Banking Sector. A candidate must clear the Interview Process to ensure their final selection in the SBI PO 2019 Exam. The qualifying marks for this round will be decided by the Bank and the marks allotted to these rounds are: Group Discussion – 20 marks, Interview – 30 marks

Final Selection

Candidates will have to qualify separately for Phase II and Phase III. The marks obtained in the Main Examination (Phase II), both in the Objective Test and the Descriptive Test, will be added to the marks obtained in Phase III to prepare the final merit list. The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination (Phase-I) will not be added to prepare the final merit list for selection.

The marks obtained by the candidates in Phase-II (Main Examination, both Objective and Descriptive Tests) and Phase-III (Group Exercise & Interview) will be normalized to 100 marks, as detailed below.

After a candidate has gone through Personal Interviews, a merit list will be prepared by the State Bank of India wherein the candidate’s Mains Exam and Interview Round score will be considered. Final cut-off marks will be declared based on the candidates’ scores and the available vacancies. All candidates who clear the cut-off range will be granted the Appointment Letter by the State Bank of India for the post of Probationary Officer.
