The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the admit cards for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) December 2025 cycle. This examination is a critical gateway for Indian nationals aspiring for ‘Junior Research Fellowship’ (JRF), ‘Assistant Professor’, and admission to Ph.D. programs across Indian universities and colleges. Candidates who have registered for the 31st December 2025 examination can now download their hall tickets from the official NTA portal. Aspirants need to carry a printed copy of the admit card along with the self-declaration (undertaking) to the exam center.

UGC NET Exam Details

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the award of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor, ‘appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D., and admission to Ph.D. only in Indian universities and colleges.  Candidates who are qualified in both the Papers of UGC NET 2025  are eligible to pursue research in the subject of their post-graduation or a related subject and are also eligible for Assistant Professor. If the Candidate qualifies in RJF, they can then apply for the position of Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship. 

The UGC NET December 2025 session will be conducted across various examination centers in the country using the Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. While candidates have already received their city intimation slips, the hall ticket serves as the final entry document. The exams are scheduled to take place on several dates, starting from December 31, 2025, and continuing through January 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7, 2026. Currently, the NTA has prioritized the release of admit cards for the December 31 session, with cards for subsequent dates to be issued shortly.

Exam Pattern

The National Testing Agency will conduct the University Grant Commission National Eligibility Test on behalf of the UGC.  The exam will last 180 minutes (3 hours). The exam will be conducted in OMR (Pen & Paper), mode. The test will consist of two papers. Both papers will consist of objective-type, multiple-choice questions. There will be no break between papers.

Candidates appearing for the exam should be familiar with the following structure:

  • Mode of Exam: Online (CBT).
  • Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes) without any break between Paper I and Paper II.
  • Paper I: Consists of 50 questions (100 marks) focusing on teaching/research aptitude, reasoning, and general awareness.
  • Paper II: Consists of 100 questions (200 marks) based on the subject selected by the candidate.
  • Marking Scheme: 2 marks for each correct answer; no negative marking for incorrect responses.

To download your admit card, follow these step-by-step instructions:

  • Step 1: Visit the official NTA UGC NET website at https://ugcnet.nta.nic.in/.
  • Step 2: Locate and click on the link titled “Download Admit Card for UGC NET December 2025.”
  • Step 3: Enter your login credentials, which include your Application Number and Date of Birth.
  • Step 4: Carefully enter the Security Pin as shown on the screen.
  • Step 5: Submit the details to view your admit card.
  • Step 6: Download the PDF and ensure you also download the required “Undertaking”.
  • Step 7: Take a clear printout to present at the examination center.
