BARC Recruitment 2026 Education Details
To be eligible for the BARC JRF Recruitment 2026, applicants must meet the following educational requirements:
Qualifying Degree: Candidates must hold an M.Sc., Integrated M.Sc., B.S.-M.S. dual degree, or a 4-year B.S. degree with a research course in Physics, Chemistry, or Life Sciences.
Minimum Marks: A minimum of 60% aggregate in B.Sc. and 55% in M.Sc. is required. Candidates with an integrated degree or BS with research must meet specific minimum percentage criteria (usually 55% to 75% depending on the course structure).
National Level Exam: Candidates MUST possess a valid score in a qualifying national-level examination valid as of July 1, 2026. Accepted exams include UGC-CSIR-NET Fellowship, JEST, ICMR-JRF, ICAR-JRF, DBT-JRB Biotechnology Eligibility Test, GATE (in relevant disciplines), or JGEEBILS.
Salary
Selected candidates will receive an attractive monthly stipend and grants to support their research work throughout the five-year tenure:
Junior Research Fellow (Year 1 & 2): ₹37,000/- per month.
Senior Research Fellow (Year 3, 4 & 5): ₹42,000/- per month (upgraded upon satisfactory performance review).
Annual Contingency Grant: An additional grant of ₹60,000/- per year is provided for research expenses, books, and conference attendance.
Age Limit
Applicants must adhere to the age limit criteria calculated as of August 1, 2026:
Maximum Age: 28 Years
(Note: Age relaxation is applicable up to 3 years for OBC-NCL, 5 years for SC/ST, and 10 years for PwBD candidates as per government rules).
Selection Process
The selection process for the BARC Junior Research Fellowship relies entirely on academic merit and interview performance:
Screening/Shortlisting: Candidates are initially shortlisted based on their valid scores in recognized national-level examinations (GATE, NET, JEST, etc.) or academic performance.
Selection Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for a rigorous interview at BARC, Mumbai. The final selection is strictly based on the candidate’s performance in this interview.
Medical Test: A pre-employment medical fitness test will be conducted for the finally selected candidates before enrollment.
