CTET Dec 2023: New Exam Pattern & Syllabus

Central Board of Secondary Education has Announced the CTET New Syllabus 2023. Along with the CTET New Exam Pattern. So candidates who are going to participate can check the CTET New Syllabus 2023 from here. CTET 2023 Exam will have two Papers – Paper I & Paper-II

Paper I is conducted for candidates who have been looking forward to becoming teachers for Class I to V and Paper II is conducted for candidates who aspire to become teachers for Class VI to VIII. Candidates also have the option to apply for both Paper-I and Paper-II. Type of Questions for Both Papers is Objective Multiple Choice Questions.  The Qualifying Mark is a minimum 60%. One major thing to note is that the CTET score is now valid for a lifetime as announced by CBSE.

CTET Syllabus 2023 For Paper I (For Classes I to V)

I. CTET Syllabus OF Child Development and Pedagogy ->30 Questions:

Child development and pedagogy are some of the most crucial subjects for the CTET exam. It comprises 30 questions. Each correct response carries 1 mark. It will focus on the Educational Psychology of teaching and learning relevant to age groups 6 to 11 years. The students can score well in this section if they will study each topic extensively.

a) Child Development (Primary School Child) – 15 Questions

  • Concept of development and its relationship with learning
  • Principles of the development of children
  • Influence of Heredity & Environment
  • Socialization processes: Social world & children (Teacher, Parents, Peers)

CTET Syllabus 2023 For Language-I

Language 1 will focus on proficiencies related to the medium of instruction. This section is also scoring but it demands proper preparation. It consists of 30 questions and each question carries 1 mark.
a) Language Comprehension – 15 Questions

  • Reading unseen passages – two passages one prose or drama and one poem with questions on comprehension, inference, grammar, and verbal ability (Prose passage may be literary, scientific, narrative, or discursive)

b) Pedagogy of Language Development – 15 Questions

  • Learning and acquisition
  • Principles of Language Teaching
  • Role of listening and speaking; function of language and how children use it as a tool
  • A critical perspective on the role of grammar in learning a language for communicating ideas verbally and in written form
  • Challenges of teaching language in a diverse classroom; language difficulties, errors, and disorders
  • Language Skills
  • Evaluating language comprehension and proficiency: speaking, listening, reading and writing
  • Teaching-learning materials: Textbook, multi-media materials, multilingual resource of the classroom

III. CTET Syllabus 2023 For Language-II

Language 2 is also based on basic concepts as Language 1. Language 2 will focus on the elements of language and comprehension abilities. It consists of 30 questions  & each question carries 1 mark.

(A candidate may choose any one language as Language 1 and other as Language 2 from the available language options and will be required to specify the same in the Confirmation Page. Language 2 will be a language other than Language 1)

a) Comprehension – 15 Questions

  • Two unseen prose passages (discursive or literary or narrative or scientific) with questions on comprehension, grammar, and verbal ability.

b) Pedagogy of Language Development – 15 Questions

  • Learning and acquisition
  • Principles of Language Teaching
  • Role of listening and speaking; function of language and how children use it as a tool
  • A critical perspective on the role of grammar in learning a language for communicating ideas verbally and in written form;
  • Challenges of teaching language in a diverse classroom; language difficulties, errors, and disorders.

  • Evaluating language comprehension and proficiency: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

IV CTET Syllabus 2023 Of Mathematics

The mathematics syllabus is lengthy in nature but the level of questions asked in the exam is moderate. Most questions are asked from the basic arithmetic from 1st to 5th std. It consists of 30 questions. Each correct response carries 1 mark.

Questions will be based on the topics prescribed in CTET 2020 syllabus. Most questions in the CTET exam are framed from the NCERT books of Class 1st to 5th.
