How to Apply: The Step-by-Step Process

  1. Registration: Candidates must log in to the official JoSAA portal using their JEE Main 2026 application number and password.

  2. Choice Filling and Locking: Candidates should select their preferred institutes and branches in order of priority. It is recommended to fill in as many choices as possible to increase the probability of securing a seat. Choices must be locked before the deadline; otherwise, the system will auto-lock the last saved choices.

  3. Mock Allotment: Before the actual allocation, mock seat allotments are published to give candidates an idea of the seats they might secure, allowing them to adjust their preferences if necessary.

  4. Seat Acceptance and Options: Once a seat is allocated, candidates must choose their willingness to participate further via three options:

    • Freeze: Accept the allotted seat and opt out of further counselling rounds.

    • Float: Accept the seat but remain eligible for an upgrade to a higher-preference choice across any institute in subsequent rounds.

    • Slide: Accept the seat but remain open to an upgrade in a better branch within the same allocated institute.

  5. Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) & Document Upload: Candidates must pay the required Seat Acceptance Fee online and upload the necessary documents. For JoSAA 2026, OBC-NCL and EWS category certificates must be issued on or after April 1, 2026, to be considered valid.

  6. Online Reporting: After payment and document upload, officials will verify the details. Candidates must regularly check the portal and promptly respond to any queries raised by the verifying officers to avoid seat cancellation.
