The Commission has announced an approximate count of 480 vacancies across four engineering disciplines, subject to alteration based on department requisitions. This total includes 19 vacancies reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) across Locomotor Disability, Hard of Hearing, Low Vision, and Multiple Disabilities.

UPSC ESE 2027 Education Details

  • Candidates must hold a degree in Engineering (B.E. / B.Tech) in the relevant discipline from a recognized University or Institute established by an Act of Parliament.

  • Passed Sections A & B examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India) (subject to legal guidelines).

  • For posts under the Indian Radio Regulatory Service (IRRS) and Indian Naval Armament Service (INAS – Electronics): An M.Sc. degree or equivalent with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics, or Radio Engineering is also acceptable.

  • Final-year appearing students are eligible to apply provisionally, provided they produce documentary proof of passing during the Stage-II qualification window prior to the Personality Test.

Salary

Selected candidates are appointed to entry-level Group ‘A’ posts at Pay Level 10 of the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix.

  • Basic Pay: Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month.

  • Allowances: In addition to basic pay, appointees receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA), and standard central government benefits.

UPSC ESE 2027 Age Limit

  • Crucial Date: As on January 1, 2027.

  • Prescribed Limits: Candidates must have attained 21 years and must not have attained 30 years (born between January 2, 1997, and January 1, 2006).

  • Relaxation in Upper Age Limit:

    • SC / ST Candidates: Up to 5 years

    • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Candidates: Up to 3 years

    • PwBD Candidates: Up to 10 years

    • Departmental Candidates (specified central departments with 3 years continuous service): Up to 35 years of age

    • Ex-Servicemen / ECOs / SSCOs: Up to 5 years

UPSC ESE 2027 Selection Process

The examination comprises three sequential recruitment stages carrying a combined total of 1300 marks:

  • Stage-I: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type – 500 Marks):

    • Paper-I: General Studies and Engineering Aptitude (2 Hours, 200 Marks)

    • Paper-II: Specific Engineering Discipline (3 Hours, 300 Marks)

    • Negative marking of one-third (0.33) marks per wrong response.

  • Stage-II: Main Examination (Conventional / Descriptive Type – 600 Marks):

    • Paper-I: Discipline Specific Conventional Paper (3 Hours, 300 Marks)

    • Paper-II: Discipline Specific Conventional Paper (3 Hours, 300 Marks)

  • Stage-III: Personality Test / Interview (200 Marks): Comprehensive assessment of technical competence, leadership capabilities, mental agility, and character integrity.

Application Fee

  • General / OBC / EWS Male Candidates: Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred only).

  • Exempted Categories: Female applicants, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and PwBD candidates are fully exempt from fee payment.

  • Payment Channels: Online through Net Banking, Visa/Master/RuPay Debit/Credit Cards, or UPI.

UPSC ESE 2027 How to Apply

  • Visit the official UPSC application portal at upsconline.nic.in.

  • Create an account to complete the registration and obtain a lifetime Universal Registration Number (URN).

  • Fill in the Common Application Form (CAF) with personal details, educational qualifications, and photo identity information.

  • Complete the mandatory live photograph capture along with the upload of the scanned photograph and signature (signed three times vertically in black ink).

  • Proceed to the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2027 specific form, choose preferred examination centres, and select your engineering discipline.

  • Complete the online fee payment (if applicable) and submit the application before the cutoff time (October 6, 2026, 6:00 PM).

  • Download and take a printout of the submitted application confirmation for future recruitment stages.
